National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital is the apex institute of ophthalmology in the country, established in 1978 and expanded to 250 beds in 2006. The institute is serving as an academic institute for postgraduate study in ophthalmology, and a tertiary service hospital for the management of ocular diseases. There are 10 sub-specialty departments in the institute e.g. Cataract, Ophthalmology, Cornea, Glaucoma, Vitreo retina, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Community Ophthalmology, Oculoplasticy, and Low vision services equipped with modern investigation tools, equipment, and trained human resources serves as the center of excellence in eye care in Bangladesh and hopefully, it will become one of the best centers in this region in near future.
