The hospital is publicly funded by the Uganda Ministry of Health and general care at the hospital is free. It is staffed by medical students and residents, supervised by Gulu University academic staff and Uganda Ministry of Health consultants. It is one of 13 regional referral hospitals in Uganda, as well as one of 15 internship hospitals in Uganda, which means that graduates from medical schools can serve one-year of internship under the supervision of qualified specialists and consultants.
